Background
Aurora Cannabis is a Canadian company and a global leader in the cannabis industry serving both the medical and consumer markets. Leading up to legalization in October 2018, Aurora embarked on an aggressive brand awareness strategy, in which PR played a critical role to legitimize the industry and help shift positive public perception of cannabis as an acceptable and beneficial product.
The Ask
Expedite brand awareness and position Aurora as a progressive industry leader.
The Result
BlueSky was engaged as part of an integrated multi-agency team to implement a full-scale marketing program. Following strict government regulations and promotional restrictions, BlueSky supported sponsorship of events such as NXNE Music & Gaming Festival, AfroChic Arts Festival and TIFF. Additionally, we implemented a phased communications plan starting with a message playbook, brand narrative, media training and crisis management strategy, followed by media relations, influencer engagement, sponsored content and speakers bureau. From July to September 2018, Aurora’s share of voice increased by 10% over the same period in 2017, with more than 172 million impressions and a social reach of 1.7 million.
